Why Live Events?
ROOT LX Productions grew out of a love for live music and a willingness to get stuck in wherever I was needed. My journey with cover bands began when the regular lighting technician was unable to make a gig, leaving me behind the desk for the evening. That unexpected opportunity sparked an interest in production, and I soon began working on sound for smaller bands before moving into lighting and technical work for amateur theatre shows.
At school, I became increasingly involved in productions, as there was no dedicated technician. This gave me the opportunity to take on much larger projects, including producing and directing concerts that brought together live bands, singers and dancers. Working with large ensembles, including eight and nine-piece bands, taught me how to manage and deliver complex shows and deal with the challenges that often arise. Alongside this, I continued working with bands on live gigs, building experience across different venues and styles of performance.
After moving to college at Hurtwood House, I founded ROOT LX Productions and began taking on a wider variety of work, from weddings and small festivals to concerts, theatre and work for camera. Lighting design has always been my strongest skill, and I particularly enjoy the detail that goes into creating a complete visual experience. Many of the projects I work on have smaller budgets, so I enjoy finding creative ways to make the most of the equipment and space available. Carefully positioning fixtures, making considered design choices and combining lighting with set and scenic elements can create something far more impactful than simply adding more equipment.
Now, ROOT LX Productions brings together that combination of creative design, technical experience and a genuine understanding of live performance. I work with artists, venues and production teams to bring ideas to life and support unforgettable nights of entertainment.
My background as a musician, both as a solo performer and as part of bands, also plays an important role in how I approach my work. Understanding music from the inside gives me a strong sense of timing, dynamics and the relationship between the music and the audience, which I can then apply to my approach to lighting and technical production.
